This is at one of Stewart's camp ground. My son was looking for fish and enjoying throwing things into the water and watching the effects of it.

Stewart's Camp Ground

Stewart's Campground for Tenting and RVing!

Stewart BC has its own Camp ground ground. It is quite big for such a small town. You can camp by tents or RVs with electricty. They has a place to take showers and call and you have the whole town of Stewart to do things or eat or do you landry. Here are some pictures I was able to get.

I am not sure if I would ever camp in a tent in these areas as you do have more bears. I wouldn't want a bear looking in my tent for food or be woken up by a bear scratching at my tent door. I would go camping in a RV once we get one and we do plan on getting one within the next year or so.

Old Hyder Alaska and Hyder Alaska today

At the very bottom of this post of the pictures, that area can be covered in water when the tide comes in and you don't see land you just see the water and smell the ocean.

(------Hyder to the present day and since 1986

(----Hyder BC in 1920 (note that I said BC and it was not a state)

(----- Hyder Alaska in 1930

The pictures at the bottom of this long blog is what Old Hyder Looks like now. The info was copied and pasted from the website "http://www.stewart-hyder.com/hyder.html".

The pictures of the posts in the water is where you would now crosses the border from Stewart BC into what is now today Hyder Alaska. The black and white photos of buildings is Old Hyder BC on water, and the coloured picture of Hyder is what it looks like now.

" HISTORY OF HYDER, ALASKA
Old Hyder, AK (1930s)

Nass River Indians called the head of Portland Canal "Skam-A-Kounst," meaning "safe place," referring to the site as a retreat from the harassment of the coastal Haidas.
The Nass used this area as a seasonal berry-picking and bird-hunting site. In 1896, Capt. D.D. Gillard of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers explored Portland Canal. Gold and silver lodes were discovered in this area in the late 1898, mainly on the Canadian side in the upper Salmon River basin.

The Stewart brothers arrived in 1902. Hyder was originally called Portland City, and the name was changed in 1914 after Frederick Hyder, a Canadian mining engineer predicted a bright future for the area. Hyder was the only practical point of access to the silver mining properties in Canada, and the community became the ocean port, supply point, and post office for miners by 1917. Hyder's boom years occurred between 1920 and 1930, when the Riverside Mine on US territory extracted gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, and tungsten. The mine operated from 1924 until 1950. In 1948, the townsite, built on pilings, was destroyed by fire.
Hyder, BC (1920s)

History has it that there was a well worn trail over the mountain from the Alaska side known as "Smugglers Trail". Many Alaskans would just walk over to Hyder, BC, drink their fill and return home. At one time, Hyder, BC boasted a row of residences, two hotels, two beer parlors, a taxi stand and a Canadian Customs two storey building, all set up on pilings. By the last 1940s only a few of the buildings remained. Hyder, BC was slowly being reduced to mere pilings.
By 1956, all major mining had closed except for the Granduc Copper Mine in Canada, which operated until 1984. Westmin Resources Ltd. operated a gold and silver mine which is currently in shut down mode."

"Free Kids"

While in town to do some errands my husband and I walked by 'Movie Galory' and saw a sign they had up in their window. I really had to scratch my head. It said "Free Kids" and in really small print it reads "see details inside store". To a person driving by wouldnt have the chance to go up close and see this. I had no choice and had to take a few pictures, and say "I got one, I got one".

The Life of a Snowman

My son and I had build this snow man and I kept taking pictures as it melted away. So here is the life of Mr. Snowman. He lived to be 2weeks old before he became mush. Every time he fell apart I kept taking what snowballs fell of the body to rebuild him. This was orginally two snowmans and a half.

Santa and Jesus

Kid's say the darnest things.
One day a few months ago my son saw one of the locals who was on the heavier side and had grayish white hair and pointed and said "Santa"? He even repeated it when he walked over and patted the gentleman on the arm.
About four days ago another local gentleman came into the restaurant that we were in having pizza for supper. The gentleman had long hair and a long beard and my son pointed again and said "Jesus"?
All I could do is smile and and chuckle and explained to him that was not Jesus but good observation skills.

The pic of my dog was to show how dirty she can get when it rains a lot and she plays in the dirt.

Kid's say the silliest things

Backing up the truck into the driveway (yes I am able to do that for some odd reason and with the car I am afraid..... I cant explain) and my son points at our house and says, "da dies ome". When I tell him "no, mommy's home" He repeated what he said, "da dies ome". I than tell him "no, mommy's home cause I keep it clean and look after it", he than says "mom mies ome". All I could do is smile and giggle as he says it so sweetly.

He has started to make more sentences and brakes them down as he says each word trying so carefully trying not to make a mistake as it seems to me.

This is a picture of our dog. We got her in December. She is now 7months old. She is becoming a very big girl since we got her. She is a wonderful dog, great with our son and we are glad to have gotten her.

Swimming Fun Continues- Video #1&2

As my little guy was swimming with daddy, I took out not only my waterproof camera but set it to film my little man swimming. It's pretty neat to watch. Have a look for yourself.

Here is a second video. This was my first time taking a video of my son swimming instead of taking pics. Will take lots more videos and when they get really good I will post some more. For now this blog and my next one will have these very first time videos for you to watch.

Swimming/ Fun/ Hotel Stays

This blog will be a two or three part thing. This is my son who loves to swim and does a good job at it. The moment he joined our family at 9months of age we took him swimming as often as we could. When we lived in Montreal we were so close to the gym (Across the street was the YMCA). Now living here in Stewart the only time we get to bring the little man swimming is when we go into town and spend the night at the hotel. We do have a pool but the city wont open it up (too much money, no qualified life guards, etc). So here are pictures of my little man swimming and having fun.

Snowman and Bear Glacier

This is our sad looking snowman after just two days. The pics off all the snow is at Bear Glacier which is 20mins away from Stewart BC. There even today it has this much snow. The ice never melts.
